Abu Dhabi, April 8, 2026: The United Arab Emirates has announced that it is closely monitoring the recent declaration by US President Donald Trump regarding a proposed two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the country’s commitment to ensuring clarity on the terms of the agreement, stressing the importance of Iran’s full compliance with an immediate cessation of hostilities. The UAE also called for the complete and unconditional reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to safeguard regional and global economic stability.

The Ministry strongly condemned what it described as “treacherous” Iranian attacks over the past 40 days, which reportedly involved around 2,760 ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones targeting infrastructure, energy facilities, and civilian sites. These attacks, it said, resulted in significant human and material losses, underscoring the need for firm international action to hold Iran accountable and secure full compensation for damages.

The UAE emphasised that addressing the Iranian threat requires a comprehensive approach, including tackling its nuclear programme, ballistic missile and drone capabilities, military activities, and regional proxy networks. It also highlighted the need to end threats to freedom of navigation, economic stability, and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Reiterating its position, the UAE stated that it is not a party to the conflict and has consistently pursued diplomatic efforts to prevent escalation, both through bilateral engagements and via the Gulf Cooperation Council. The country affirmed its ability to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and national interests.

The statement further stressed the importance of Iran adhering to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), issued on March 11, which condemned Iranian actions and called for an immediate halt to hostilities.

The UAE expressed hope that the ceasefire initiative would pave the way for lasting peace and stability across the region.
