The University of Sharjah (UoS) has retained its position as the highest-ranked university in the UAE for the third consecutive year in the 2026-27 US News Best Global Universities Rankings.
According to the latest rankings, the University of Sharjah placed 247th globally and 57th in Asia, outperforming other UAE institutions in an assessment that evaluated universities from more than 100 countries based on research performance, academic reputation, and scientific output.
The university also recorded strong performances across several academic disciplines, most notably in green and sustainable science and technology, where it ranked ninth worldwide. Other notable subject rankings included energy and fuels (27th globally) and engineering (77th globally).
The institution also secured leading positions in chemical engineering, clinical medicine, electrical and electronic engineering, physical chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology.
Commenting on the achievement, Prof. Esameldin Agamy congratulated Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, describing the accomplishment as a reflection of the university’s growing regional and international reputation.
Prof. Agamy said maintaining the top position among UAE universities for a third consecutive year demonstrates the success of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi’s vision for advancing scientific research and higher education in line with international standards.
He noted that the university’s progress in sustainability-related disciplines, energy research, and engineering highlights the effectiveness of its strategy to strengthen applied research and contribute to the UAE’s environmental and innovation priorities.
“The achievement reflects the University’s commitment to becoming a leading scientific platform that serves society and contributes to global knowledge production,” Agamy said.
He also expressed appreciation to the university’s faculty members, researchers, and administrative staff for their role in enhancing the institution’s academic standing and international competitiveness.
The US News Best Global Universities Rankings are among the world’s most recognised higher education rankings, assessing institutions through 13 indicators related to research performance, scientific publications, citations, and academic reputation at both regional and global levels.
The rankings are widely used by students, researchers, and educational institutions as a benchmark for evaluating academic excellence and research impact worldwide.
