National carrier adjusts operations after state defense systems intercept hostile drones and missiles linked to escalating US-Iran conflict

KUWAIT CITY — July 18, 2026:Kuwait Airways has rescheduled the majority of its flights following the sudden closure of the country’s airspace on Saturday, as regional military tensions between the United States and Iran continue to cause widespread disruptions across Gulf air corridors.

The decision by the national carrier follows an official suspension of takeoffs and landings at Kuwait International Airport. Kuwaiti air defenses were activated early Saturday morning to intercept hostile drones and ballistic missile threats linked to the escalating conflict centered around the Strait of Hormuz.

In an official statement released via the state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Kuwait Airways urged all travelers to verify their flight status before traveling to the terminal. The airline confirmed that automated text messages and notifications are being dispatched directly to the contact numbers registered on bookings to keep passengers informed of operational changes.

“Kuwait Airways announces to its esteemed customers the rescheduling of most flights due to the closure of the airspace today, Saturday, July 18, 2026,” the carrier stated in a public advisory. Management emphasized that flight safety remains the absolute priority during the current airspace emergency.

The closure comes amid a severe breakdown of the regional security situation. European and international aviation regulators, including the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), recently issued Conflict Zone Information Bulletins (CZIB) advising civilian operators to avoid the Kuwait Flight Information Region (FIR) at all altitudes due to unpredictable missile and drone activity. Airspace restrictions have also impacted neighboring jurisdictions in the Gulf.

Kuwait Airways has set up dedicated emergency communication channels to assist stranded and affected passengers. Travelers within Kuwait can contact the call center by dialing 171. Those calling from international locations can reach customer service at +965 24345555. Additionally, a dedicated customer support line has been enabled on WhatsApp at +965 1802050 to handle inquiries regarding ticket changes and rerouting options.

Civil aviation authorities have not yet confirmed when normal flight operations will resume, as air defense forces remain on high alert across the country.
