International seat capacity jumps 18% year-on-year to 4.35 million, solidifying Dubai’s global aviation lead over London Heathrow and Amsterdam Schiphol

DUBAI, UAE :Dubai International Airport (DXB) has reclaimed its position as the world’s busiest global aviation hub for scheduled international seat capacity in July 2026. The performance underscores Dubai’s vital role at the center of international long-haul travel as connectivity across global flight corridors continues to expand rapidly.

According to official monthly data released by the UK-based aviation analytics firm OAG, DXB offered 4.35 million scheduled international seats during July 2026. This represents a significant 18% year-on-year growth, placing Dubai comfortably ahead of London Heathrow (4.23 million seats) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (3.82 million seats).

Record Growth and Operational Trajectory

Dubai’s top ranking in July follows an exceptionally strong operational run in early 2026. The airport had previously led global capacity rankings in January 2026 (offering 5.5 million scheduled seats and surpassing Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International) and maintained its lead through February with 4.9 million seats.

This momentum follows DXB’s record-setting performance in 2025, when it handled 95.2 million passengers—the highest annual passenger traffic in the airport’s history. Moving into Q1 2026, the hub welcomed another 18.6 million passengers as regional airspace conditions stabilized and airlines expanded network schedules to meet soaring demand.

Next-Generation Smart Travel Infrastructure

A major factor behind DXB’s ability to seamlessly scale operations is its heavy investment in cutting-edge digital border control technology:

  • Pre-Travel Verification Tool: Developed in collaboration with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), allowing passengers to verify Smart Gate eligibility before reaching passport control.
  • Biometric Smart Gates: Enables registered travelers to clear border control within seconds using advanced facial and iris recognition.
  • “Red Carpet” Travel Corridor: Introduced in August 2025, this seamless corridor permits multiple travelers to clear passport control simultaneously in 6 to 14 seconds without presenting physical documents.
  • Passenger Flow Enhancements: Includes off-site baggage check-in facilities, priority lanes for families and People of Determination, digital wayfinding, and real-time luggage tracking.
