Traffic on the westbound E22 carriageway towards Abu Dhabi city will be restricted during overnight hours from August 19 to 21.

ABU DHABI, Aug 18, 2026:Abu Dhabi Mobility has announced overnight closures on a key stretch of the E22 Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road starting Wednesday midnight as maintenance teams carry out scheduled work.

Traffic heading towards Abu Dhabi city along the major highway will be diverted during late-night hours over three consecutive nights. The restrictions take effect midnight on Wednesday, August 19, and will remain active until 6:00 AM each morning through Friday, August 21.

Transport authorities confirmed that the traffic disruption specifically affects the westbound carriageway leading into the UAE capital. Eastbound traffic towards Al Ain is expected to flow without interruption.

Maps published by Abu Dhabi Mobility on social media outline the affected segments of the E22 and indicate designated detours. Drivers entering the city during the six-hour closure windows are advised to plan alternative routes and follow electronic road signboards indicating detours.

The temporary roadworks form part of routine infrastructure management across the emirate’s primary highway network. Abu Dhabi Mobility, which oversees land transport, licensing, aviation, and maritime operations in the emirate, regularly schedules highway maintenance during off-peak night hours to minimize commuter inconvenience.

Motorists travelling between Al Ain and Abu Dhabi during late hours should allow extra commute time and adhere to posted speed limits around work zones.
