Military confirms mid-air interceptions over the country as regional spillover from US-Iran hostilities enters second straight day

KUWAIT CITY — September 3, 2026 : Kuwaiti air defence units engaged and intercepted a fresh barrage of incoming Iranian ballistic missiles and armed drones early Thursday, triggering loud detonations across sovereign airspace as batteries neutralised projectiles mid-flight.

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces confirmed the combat activation in an operational bulletin released through the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). Military commanders advised residents that loud booms echoing over suburban and metropolitan areas were the direct result of surface-to-air interceptors destroying hostile inbound ordinance before it could hit ground targets.

The predawn strikes mark the second consecutive day that Kuwait’s air defence network has repelled aerial incursions. Iranian state television acknowledged launching attacks directed at military installations housing American forces across the northern Gulf. It comes amid rapidly expanding cross-border hostilities between Washington and Tehran, which escalated earlier this week following intensive US strikes across Iranian military positions.

Civil defence authorities instructed citizens and foreign residents to remain inside safe structures, heed official advisories, and stay clear of open areas where spent rocket boosters or intercepted metallic fragments could fall. There were no immediate official reports of casualties or extensive ground damage from Thursday morning’s wave.

On Wednesday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned earlier projectile strikes—some of which saw shrapnel impact civilian perimeter zones—as a grave breach of international law, the UN Charter, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Kuwait reiterated its sovereign legal right under international frameworks to deploy all necessary countermeasures to protect its borders, strategic installations, and domestic population.

Kuwaiti military commands across the air force and land borders remain on maximum combat alert, coordinating radar tracking and early warning systems across the Gulf Cooperation Council theatre.
