New agreement deploys dedicated healthcare workers, nurses, and physiotherapists to bolster holistic pediatric oncology support

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM — September 5, 2026 : Dubai-headquartered non-profit Hope Child Cancer Care Foundation has expanded its operational footprint in Kerala by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram to strengthen holistic care for pediatric cancer patients.

Under the new pact, signed at the RCC Director’s office, the foundation will directly deploy professional social workers, staff nurses, and physiotherapists to the hospital’s pediatric oncology department. The initiative integrates clinical care with direct psychological, physical, and social rehabilitation for young patients and their families.

RCC Director Dr. Rajaneesh Kumar and Hope Foundation Chairman K.K. Harris signed the agreement in the presence of pediatric oncologist Dr. Guruprasad, Hope Director Hashim Aboobacker, and Senior Administrative Manager Hasanul Banna.

The partnership coincides with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, targeting the acute socio-economic pressures families face during protracted oncology therapies. Pediatric cancer treatments often span months or years, requiring multidisciplinary support that extends beyond conventional clinical interventions.

Founded in 2016, the foundation is entering its tenth year of service. Beyond in-hospital staffing, the organization runs a network of transit homes called “Hope Homes” near major oncology facilities. These facilities offer free accommodation, wholesome food, travel assistance, nutritional supplements, and financial aid to underprivileged families traveling from distant regions.

In Kerala, Hope Homes operate across Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Mukkam, and Thalassery. The foundation has also expanded into Karnataka, providing pediatric cancer support services at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health in Bengaluru.

The direct placement of allied healthcare staff at RCC aims to reduce burnout among clinical teams while ensuring families receive structured guidance on physical therapy, mental wellness, and post-chemotherapy recovery from admission through discharge.
