From expired meters to unauthorised occupancy, penalties across on-street spots, open plots and multi-storey facilities range from Dh100 to Dh10,000.

DUBAI, UAE : Motorists across Dubai face structured financial penalties ranging from Dh100 for an expired ticket to Dh10,000 for tampering with parking infrastructure or operating unauthorised commercial activities, according to official regulatory frameworks enforced by Parkin PJSC, the emirate’s public parking operator.

Parking enforcement across Dubai relies on a tiered penalty system that distinguishes between roadside bays, surface plots, multi-storey structures, and commercial occupancy breaches. With the expansion of automated monitoring—including smart scan cars and solar-powered pole cameras reading registration plates in real time—compliance checks operate continuously across paid zones.

Roadside and Open Plot Parking Violations

Standard curb and open-lot parking spaces carry fines targeted primarily at payment evasion, time overruns, and obstruction.

Overstaying the permitted window or letting a paid session lapse incurs an immediate Dh100 penalty. Parking without paying the base tariff or failing to display required physical permits draws a Dh150 fine.

Mid-level penalties of Dh200 apply to driving or parking on sidewalks, occupying demarcated no-parking areas, or positioning a vehicle in a way that disrupts the normal flow of traffic.

Stricter penalties target severe infractions. A Dh1,000 fine applies to:

  • Parking an unregistered vehicle or one without number plates
  • Unauthorised parking in bays reserved for People of Determination, or failure to display a designated permit
  • Occupying restricted bays without proper authorization
  • Erecting vehicle shades over public spaces without official approval
  • Displaying vehicles for sale or commercial hire in public bays
  • Damaging infrastructure, ticket machines, or directional signage

Relocating or removing an official parking sign, payment terminal, or associated installation without prior municipal or operator permission carries a top-tier penalty of Dh10,000.

Multi-Storey Building Parking Rules

Dedicated public parking structures enforce specific internal operational rules to prevent congestion in enclosed environments.

Drivers who misplace physical entry tokens or electronic gate cards face a Dh150 replacement and administrative fee.

A Dh200 fine applies to poor vehicle positioning, including parking outside designated slots, crossing marked bay lines, double-parking, halting in prohibited areas, blocking access ramps, or littering inside the building.

Vehicles exceeding marked overhead height clearances or those remaining past maximum allowable durations without pre-arrangement are fined Dh500.

High-level multi-storey fines of Dh1,000 cover intentional fee evasion, unauthorised use of dedicated accessible bays for People of Determination, taking reserved private spaces, or defacing structural and electronic fixtures.

Commercial Infringements and Escalating Repeat Penalties

Parkin enforces strict measures against companies or individuals carrying out work, storage, or commercial operations in parking areas without valid occupancy permits. Several of these violations feature progressive penalties for repeat offenses:

  • Unauthorised work or site occupancy: Dh2,500 for a first breach, rising to Dh5,000 for a second, and Dh10,000 for third and subsequent offenses.
  • Misleading signage or simulated reservations: Using makeshift barriers, traffic cones, or unauthorized signs to portray a public space as private carries Dh2,500 for the first offense, Dh5,000 for the second, and Dh10,000 for subsequent infractions.
  • Damaging parking assets: Dh2,500 on first offense, Dh5,000 on second, and Dh10,000 on third.
  • Breaching permit conditions: Dh1,000 for a first incident, Dh2,500 on recurrence, and Dh5,000 for persistent non-compliance.
  • Obstructing inspectors: Impeding enforcement personnel or refusing inspection carries Dh1,000 initially, doubling to Dh2,000 on second notice, and reaching Dh4,000 thereafter.

Unpermitted economic trade, using the “Dubai Parking” brand or trademarked insignia for commercial gains, and dismantling electronic parking terminals without clearance each draw an outright Dh10,000 fine. Delaying the reinstallation of authorized signage past an agreed timeframe triggers daily charges of Dh100, capped at Dh5,000.

Checking and Settling Fines

Motorists can track, verify, and settle citations immediately through Parkin’s official digital channels.

Through the website (parkin.ae), drivers navigate to the fine settlement section and enter their vehicle details—including emirate, plate category, plate code, and registration number—or query using a traffic file number or fine reference.

The Parkin mobile application provides identical functionality with integrated UAE Pass sign-in. Users can view photo evidence of violations where recorded, review payment breakdowns, and settle dues using credit cards, debit cards, or saved digital payment profiles.
