The National Centre of Meteorology warns of reduced visibility from blowing dust as afternoon convective clouds trigger showers across inland and mountainous regions.
DUBAI, October 19, 2026 : The United Arab Emirates is bracing for a five-day spell of unstable weather marked by scattered rainfall, gusty winds reaching 50 km/h, and recurring morning fog, meteorologists confirmed on Monday.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said the shifting pattern is being driven by an extension of a surface low-pressure system coupled with an upper-air low-pressure system, creating conditions ripe for convective cloud formations through Friday.
Afternoon convective clouds are expected to build over eastern and southern territories, bringing isolated showers that could stretch into inland and western districts as the week progresses. Mountainous regions near Fujairah and interior locations around Al Ain remain most prone to convective activity.
Daytime heat will remain pronounced despite the cloud cover. Inland mercury readings are projected to peak around 42°C, while coastal districts and islands will hover between 34°C and 39°C. The cooler mountainous terrain will record highs between 28°C and 33°C.
Strong downdrafts from rain-bearing clouds pose immediate hazards on roads. Winds are forecast to shift from southeasterly to northwesterly, blowing at light to moderate speeds before accelerating sharply. Peak gusts of up to 50 km/h on Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to whip up loose dust and sand, significantly lowering horizontal visibility on open desert highways.
Overnight and early morning commuters also face recurring visibility challenges along coastal and low-lying internal plains. Relative humidity is projected to surge late each evening, raising the likelihood of dense fog and mist until mid-morning.
Cloud formations will shift slightly westward by Thursday afternoon, carrying the chance of localised showers before weather conditions gradually stabilise. By Friday, skies will turn generally fair to partly cloudy, though lingering humidity will maintain the risk of isolated morning mist along western coastal stretches.
Marine conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are expected to remain slight throughout the week, offering calm waters for shipping and offshore operations despite the instability on land
