Following Republican losses that flipped Senate control, US President Donald Trump indicates readiness to cooperate while warning of potential legislative vetoes.

WASHINGTON, United States — US President Donald Trump stated he is “absolutely willing” to accept the results of the midterm elections and work alongside Democrats, even after Republican defeats ceded control of the Senate to the opposition party.

In an interview with The New York Times late Tuesday evening, conducted from the White House as election returns came in, Trump indicated he was prepared to find common ground with the newly empowered opposition. “We’ll, you know, look forward to working with them. We’ll probably work something out,” he told the newspaper.

Trump attributed the Republican setbacks to his own absence from the ballot, arguing that the outcome would have favored the party had he been running directly. He expressed no regrets regarding his endorsements of defeated Republican Senate candidates. During the interview, he also defended his administration’s decision to go to war with Iran, characterizing the move as a “very wise decision.” Reflecting on past allies, Trump questioned how Senator Lindsey Graham, who passed away in July, might have fared had he contested the race.

Addressing the outcome publicly on Truth Social, Trump announced plans to dissect the campaign dynamics. “I’m going to become a Political Pundit, both good and bad, on the reasons these Candidates won and lost!” he posted. Alongside his reaction, he shared an image of a red cap inscribed with the word “VETO,” underscoring previous pledges to deploy his presidential veto power to stall Democratic legislative priorities.

Trump maintained that the opening half of his second term remained an unqualified achievement, describing the past two years as “the most successful two-year period in the history of any president.”
