Violators face a 500 AED fine, traffic black points, and a seven-day vehicle impoundment under UAE traffic laws.

ABU DHABI: Police authorities in Abu Dhabi have issued a fresh reminder to motorists regarding strict penalties for carrying more passengers than a vehicle’s authorized capacity.

Abu Dhabi Police stated that exceeding the permitted passenger limit violates safety regulations and poses severe risks to road users. According to traffic enforcement officials, drivers caught overloading their vehicles will face a fine of 500 UAE Dirhams (AED), four traffic black points recorded against their driving license, and the impoundment of their vehicle for seven days.

The enforcement initiative aims to reduce traffic accidents and ensure compliance with maximum passenger occupancy limits defined in the vehicle registration documents. Authorities emphasized that seatbelts and passenger protection systems are designed for specific seating capacities, and overloading compromises overall vehicle safety during abrupt maneuvers or collisions.

Traffic patrols and automated monitoring systems across the emirate continue to monitor compliance. Police urged motorists to adhere to transportation safety protocols and verify seating availability before setting off on journeys.
