Authorities step up traffic patrols and expand public transport services across key school zones to ease back-to-school congestion.
DUBAI — More than 1.27 million students across the United Arab Emirates will begin the new academic year on Monday, August 31, prompting federal and local authorities to roll out comprehensive security and transport plans.
The nationwide return covers over 1,180 public and private schools, marking one of the largest traffic management operations of the year. To keep traffic flowing smoothly and protect pupils, Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have deployed extra resources targeting primary educational hubs.
Dubai Police confirmed that 253 patrol vehicles and 28 aerial drones will monitor school zones and major arterial roads across the emirate. The surveillance operation aims to prevent dangerous overtaking near drop-off points, clear unexpected gridlock, and ensure rapid emergency responses during morning and afternoon peak hours.
The RTA is simultaneously scaling up public transit infrastructure, increasing service frequency across more than 30 bus routes. Additional buses will serve high-density school districts, including Al Nahda, Muhaisnah, Al Barsha, Al Quoz, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Al Garhoud.
Transport officials expect the increased bus frequency to reduce waiting times and absorb the surge in commuter volume created by staggered school schedules. Road safety teams have urged parents and school bus operators to adhere strictly to speed limits and yield to children at designated crossings.
