Representatives of the UAE-based VPS Healthcare directly hand over financial assistance to families of deceased Indian and Sri Lankan workers.

DUBAI/NEW DELHI: Immediate financial aid from a Rs 2.6 crore emergency relief package announced by prominent NRI entrepreneur Dr Shamsheer Vayalil has been delivered directly to the grieving families of expatriate workers killed in a tragic traffic accident on Dubai’s Emirates Road.

Representatives from the office of Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of VPS Healthcare, personally visited the remote villages and homes of the deceased across India and Sri Lanka to distribute the financial support.

Six Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan national lost their lives in the major road accident. Under the comprehensive rehabilitation framework, the family of each deceased worker received Rs 26 lakh. In addition to the direct monetary assistance, the initiative covers long-term educational support for the children of the victims.

Direct Ground Support in India

The VPS Healthcare delegation initiated the distribution by travelling to rural pockets of Telangana and Uttar Pradesh to meet the families of the victims.

In Telangana, the team visited the residences of Salim Sayeed Hussain (51) and Tirupati Gollapalli Chandrayya (23) in the Jagtial district, alongside Abdul Rafeeq Abdul Rahim (37) in the Nirmal district. Families recounted the devastating impact of the losses; Salim had moved to the UAE just two and a half months prior to the accident, leaving behind an ailing son and unresolved responsibilities, while Chandrayya had spent only seven months abroad. For Abdul Rafeeq’s father, the tragedy comes as a double blow after losing two children to a domestic road accident in 2015.

In Uttar Pradesh, visits were made to the households of Abdul Rasheed Zakir Hussain (38) and Markandeya Chauhan Bhajjan Chauhan (39) in Mau district, as well as Mohammad Saqib Liaqat Ali (31) in Bijnor district. Both Abdul Rasheed and Mohammad Saqib had migrated to the UAE mere months before the crash to build a sustainable livelihood for their dependents.

Educational Sponsorship for Nursing Aspirant

During the visit to Markandeya Chauhan’s home in Mau, Dr Shamsheer connected with the family via video call. Upon learning that Chauhan’s daughter, Ankita, aspired to pursue a career in healthcare, Dr Shamsheer pledged full financial sponsorship for her Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing degree. Furthermore, he assured the family that VPS Healthcare would facilitate employment opportunities for her in the UAE upon the successful completion of her graduation.

Sri Lankan Family and Injured Workers Assisted

The humanitarian outreach extended beyond India to Colombo, Sri Lanka, where representatives delivered financial aid to the widow and daughter of Samuel Rangasamy (34).

The relief package also integrated financial support for nine expatriate workers who survived the crash with injuries. Navigated in coordination with their employer to address medical requirements and recovery phases, the group comprises eight Indians—three from Uttar Pradesh, two from Rajasthan, and one each from Kerala, Telangana, and Bihar—and one Nepalese national. Financial disbursements for four of the injured individuals were completed within the UAE.
