Deployment of smart ‘iDeclare’ technology, 77 baggage screening scanners, and boosted staffing ensures seamless transit for returning residents and tourists.

DUBAI, Aug 22, 2026: Dubai Customs has slashed red-channel clearance times for arriving passengers from 45 minutes to under five minutes, deploying advanced screening technology and round-the-clock staffing to process an influx of returning residents and international tourists at the close of the summer break.

The operational strategy addresses peak arrival volumes across the emirate’s air entry points as families return ahead of the new academic year. By pairing digital declaration tools with high-capacity physical screening, border control authorities aim to balance stringent security protocols with rapid transit times.

At the core of the streamlined clearance process is the “iDeclare” smart application. The mobile platform allows travelers to declare personal belongings, commercial samples, and gifts prior to touching down. By shifting manual declarations to a digital pre-arrival framework, red-channel processing times have seen a nearly 90 percent reduction during high-traffic windows.

Field operations across Dubai’s airport terminals are currently supported by 77 specialized baggage screening machines, including 58 heavy-duty scanners for checked luggage and 19 units dedicated to hand baggage. These automated systems work alongside trained inspection officers utilizing targeted risk-assessment models to evaluate potential security threats without causing systemic bottlenecks.

“We prepare for the return-season peak well in advance by analyzing flight schedules and passenger volumes,” said Khalid Ahmed, Director of Passenger Operations at Dubai Customs. “This allows us to deploy personnel and operational resources to the busiest areas at the right time. Our goal is for every arriving passenger to experience the level of service Dubai is known for from the moment they land.”

The customs deployment forms part of the broader “oneDXB” collaborative framework, uniting airport authorities, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Police, and home carriers including Emirates and flydubai. The integrated strategy supports the broader targets of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to strengthen the emirate’s position as a global tourism, commercial, and aviation hub.
