Retail rates in the UAE hit historic highs across all carats following a sharp rally in international bullion markets driven by economic uncertainty.

DUBAI — Retail gold prices in the United Arab Emirates recorded a major surge today, pushing 22-karat gold past the psychological threshold of AED 500 per gram across jewelry outlets in Dubai and the wider Emirates.

bullion dealers and retail exchange networks across the country adjusted their morning display boards to reflect steep gains in international spot markets.

The standard 24-karat gold rate reached AED 541 per gram, marking one of the highest levels recorded in the local retail market. Concurrently, 22-karat gold rose to AED 501 per gram. Lower carat categories experienced matching upward adjustments, with 18-karat gold quoted at AED 411.75 per gram.

The UAE retail rate is directly tied to global spot gold prices, calculated alongside local currency conversion rates against the US dollar and domestic retail margins. Market analysts attribute the domestic surge to a sustained global rally, driven by heightened central bank purchasing, lingering geopolitical tension, and shifting expectations regarding international interest rate cycles.

Gold buying in the Gulf region, particularly within Dubai’s major trading hubs, typically adjusts rapidly to sharp price fluctuations. While high rates usually prompt immediate resistance among casual jewelry buyers, retail jewellers report steady interest in investment bullion, including bars and sovereign coins. Local trade bodies monitor daily price fixing through the Dubai Jewelry Group to ensure uniform pricing across thousands of retail outlets in the emirate.
