The five-day ‘A Generation for a Greater Tomorrow’ programme introduces children to city engineering, urban agriculture, and public safety through hands-on learning

DUBAI, Oct. 9 : Children across Dubai are stepping into the boots of city planners, agricultural scientists, and laboratory technicians this week as Dubai Municipality runs an interactive educational hub inside City Centre Mirdif.

The civic authority launched ‘A Generation for a Greater Tomorrow’ to give young residents and their parents a clear, behind-the-scenes view of how municipal services keep the city operating daily. Running from October 7 through October 11, the free public activation operates daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.

Organizers split the exhibition space into themed, tactile stations aimed at translating municipal responsibilities into practical lessons for children. Rather than relying on passive displays, the initiative centers on experiential learning, problem-solving, and creative communication.

At the urban agriculture station, children handle local soil types, examine native UAE flora, and practice seedling cultivation. Instructors guide participants through efficient drip irrigation techniques, explaining how desert-adapted greenery sustains urban microclimates and supports broader municipal climate goals.

A dedicated laboratory counter allows younger visitors to conduct beginner-friendly chemistry and biology experiments under supervision. The demonstrations demystify the civic testing regimens used daily across Dubai to inspect food safety, monitor consumer products, and certify construction materials.

Public health and civil protection form another core component. Simulated home environments teach children to spot everyday household hazards, handle common tools cautiously, and recognize emergency procedures. Parallel exercises cover outdoor safety, detailing practical rules for swimming at municipal beaches, visiting public parks, and navigating roadside pedestrian corridors.

The civic body also incorporated digital learning tools into the setup. Bespoke educational video games test players on resource sorting and waste management logistics, illustrating how individual sorting habits affect municipal recycling streams. Another digital simulation addresses veterinary services, tracking pet health standards and showing how animal welfare controls protect the wider urban population from zoonotic risks.

Alongside science and civic maintenance, a media platform gives children space to practice public speaking and digital storytelling. Young participants write short prompts, test audio-visual recording gear, and present their impressions of Dubai’s future, encouraging them to think critically about city development.

The event aligns with national directives emphasizing shared family activities and civic involvement, offering parents structured spaces to participate directly in their children’s learning outside traditional classroom settings.
