A chain-reaction collision involving three buses and a car prompts authorities to remind motorists of heavy fines for stopping in live traffic lanes.

DUBAI, July 4, 2026 — A major multi-vehicle collision on Jebel Ali Road involving three buses and a car has left 25 people injured, prompting Dubai Police to issue an urgent safety warning to motorists regarding the extreme dangers of stopping in live traffic lanes.

The incident occurred when a passenger bus suffered a sudden technical malfunction and came to a complete halt in the middle of a busy lane. Due to the high speed of the road, the drivers of the trailing vehicles were unable to react in time, resulting in a severe, multi-vehicle rear-end collision.

According to emergency responders, the 25 injured individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries, ranging from minor and moderate to serious. All victims were promptly stabilized at the scene and transported to local hospitals for comprehensive medical treatment.

Emergency Response and Traffic Management

Upon receiving the alert, the Dubai Police Command and Control Centre immediately dispatched traffic accident investigators, emergency services, and roadside patrols to the site. Traffic patrols quickly secured the area, managed the resulting gridlock to ensure clear access for emergency vehicles, and successfully cleared the damaged vehicles to restore normal traffic flow.

Brigadier Essam Ibrahim Al Awar, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, confirmed that specialized teams executed established safety protocols effectively to secure the site and prevent any secondary accidents.

Heavy Penalties for Roadside Stoppages

Following the crash, Dubai authorities reiterated that halting a vehicle in the middle of a live roadway due to mechanical breakdowns, running out of fuel, or tyre punctures is one of the most hazardous traffic violations.

Under the UAE Federal Traffic Law, motorists who stop in live lanes face stringent penalties:

  • Dh1,000 fine and 6 black points for stopping in the middle of the road.
  • An additional Dh500 fine under Article 98 for obstructing the flow of traffic.

Brigadier Al Awar warned that stopping on high-speed highways frequently escalates into fatal or catastrophic collisions, emphasizing that maintaining vehicle roadworthiness is a driver’s primary responsibility.

Official Safety Guidance for Vehicle Breakdowns

Dubai Police have urged drivers to adhere to the following safety protocols if their vehicle malfunctions on the road:

  • Immediately activate the vehicle’s hazard warning lights.
  • Prioritize passenger safety and move everyone out of the vehicle.
  • Place a warning triangle at a safe distance behind the vehicle, if possible.
  • Exit the roadway entirely and stand in a secure area away from active traffic.
  • Contact the Dubai Police immediately for emergency roadside assistance.
