Humanitarian initiative by GDRFA Dubai and Farjan Dubai targets construction sites, transport hubs, and landmark developments across the emirate.

DUBAI — Dubai authorities have relaunched the “Freej Fridge” humanitarian initiative to support thousands of outdoor workers operating under high summer temperatures.

Organized jointly by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) and Farjan Dubai, the outreach campaign delivers free chilled drinking water, fresh juices, and ice cream directly to laborers across various infrastructure, construction, and service sectors.

The multi-day tour begins on August 3 at Dubai Harbour. Mobile units equipped with cooling facilities will subsequently travel to key sites, stopping at Al Maktoum International Airport on August 4, Palm Jumeirah Crescent Road on August 5, and Al Nakheel Road in Business Bay on August 6.

Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of GDRFA Dubai, emphasized that the project reflects the emirate’s core values of community support and worker welfare.

“Freej Fridge is more than just a beverage distribution campaign; it carries a deep humanitarian message of gratitude and respect for the workers whose efforts build our city,” Major General Bin Suroor said. “Protecting their health, safety, and well-being remains a top priority. When government departments and community organizations collaborate, we amplify the reach and impact of our humanitarian initiatives.”

The initiative runs alongside the United Arab Emirates’ mandatory Midday Break policy, which prohibits outdoor work in direct sunlight between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM every day from June 15 to September 15. The annual ban is strictly enforced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) to prevent heat-related illnesses, dehydration, and heatstroke among outdoor personnel.

Field inspection teams routinely visit worksites during the restricted hours to ensure employers provide shaded rest areas, adequate hydration facilities, and compliant safety gear. Companies violating the mandatory rest period face financial penalties starting at AED 5,000 per worker, up to a maximum fine of AED 50,000 for large-scale non-compliance.

GDRFA Dubai noted that the summer campaign forms part of a year-round strategy dedicated to labor welfare, social responsibility, and community solidarity across the emirate.
