Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed significant progress on the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street Development Project, with 60 per cent of construction now complete. The project forms a key component of the wider Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project, designed to meet rising population growth and traffic demand.

The initiative involves upgrading four major intersections and constructing a network of bridges and tunnels spanning 4.3 kilometres, along with 14 kilometres of new roads. The enhanced corridor will improve traffic flow between Al Asayel Street, Al Khail Road and Al Wasl Club Street, while providing dedicated exits to Oud Maitha Road.

RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer stated that the project will serve major residential, medical and development zones, including Zabeel, Oud Maitha, Al Jaddaf, Umm Hurair, Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club. The population served by the corridor is expected to exceed 420,000 residents by 2030.

Once completed, the project will increase Oud Maitha Road’s traffic capacity by 50 per cent and cut travel time by up to 75 per cent, reducing journeys from 20 minutes to just five minutes. Several bridge structures supporting movements toward Business Bay Crossing are nearing completion and are expected to open in the first quarter of the year, while tunnel and widening works are scheduled for later phases.

The development also addresses traffic weaving, merging conflicts and safety concerns by adding slip lanes, service roads, parking spaces and dedicated turning lanes across all four intersections, significantly enhancing mobility and accessibility across the corridor.
