Two major MoUs signed during a high-level China visit will establish a new rail R&D hub for the Dubai Metro Blue Line and deploy advanced smart city AI infrastructure.
DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has aggressively expanded its international footprint by signing two landmark Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Chinese tech giants CASCO SIGNAL and Huawei Technologies. The strategic agreements, signed during an official delegation visit to China, aim to integrate cutting-edge artificial intelligence, next-generation smart city applications, and robust digital infrastructure into Dubai’s rapidly growing transport network.
The high-level delegation, led by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, collaborated with the Dubai International Chamber’s Shanghai office to orchestrate the visits. The partnership with CASCO SIGNAL LTD. focuses on the upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line. Under this agreement, an advanced Research & Development (R&D) centre and innovation laboratory will be established in Dubai to provide a simulated testing environment for signalling, communication, and AI-driven operational scheduling before new metro systems go live.
Simultaneously, the alliance with Huawei Technologies is set to anchor Dubai’s “20-Minute City” vision. This collaboration will focus on deploying AI applications for real-time traffic incident detection, building unified data platforms that seamlessly integrate disparate transport systems, and developing highly redundant digital infrastructure to guarantee total business continuity.
HE Mattar Al Tayer emphasized that building long-term strategic partnerships with leading Chinese firms allows Dubai to leverage world-class expertise in mega-infrastructure delivery. He noted that China’s integrated transport systems serve as a premier global model, combining high operational efficiency with sustainable innovation.
During the extensive tour, the RTA delegation also inspected Shanghai’s unified Command and Control Centre, rode the ultra-high-speed Shanghai Maglev, and studied the multi-modal design architecture of the Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub to gather insights for Dubai’s future urban transit projects.
Dubai’s Transit Evolution: The Dubai Metro Blue Line represents the next major chapter in the emirate’s urban expansion plans, designed to link key economic and residential growth hubs. By incorporating AI and predictive maintenance frameworks through these newly formed Chinese alliances, Dubai is accelerating its transition toward autonomous public transport while actively supporting its comprehensive economic agenda for sustainable smart cities.
