Foreign ministry terms dawn assault on sites including residential areas a flagrant violation of international law and UNSC Resolution 2817

KUWAIT CITY — September 2, 2026 : Kuwait has lodged a sharp condemnation against Iran following dawn drone and missile strikes that targeted several sites across the country, including a residential complex, calling the assault a blatant breach of its national sovereignty and regional security.

In an official statement issued through the state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the aerial incursions as an unacceptable aggression that directly threatens the country’s stability. Officials stressed that the repeated targeting of sovereign territory violates fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, international humanitarian norms, and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.

Military batteries engaged incoming aerial threats during the early hours of Wednesday, detonating hostile drones and missiles in mid-air. Shrapnel and impact fragments from the intercepted projectiles fell across multiple districts, damaging a residential compound and non-commercial structures.

The foreign ministry underlined that targeting civilian installations marks a dangerous escalation in cross-border hostilities. Kuwait’s diplomatic corps warned that aggressive actions of this nature deliberately undermine ongoing regional and international mediation efforts intended to calm tensions across the Gulf.

Kuwait reserves the sovereign and legal right under international law to take all proportional measures necessary to defend its borders, critical infrastructure, and the security of its citizens and foreign residents.

Regional diplomatic channels remain active as Kuwait consults with Gulf Cooperation Council partners and international allies to address the escalation and coordinate collective security responses.
