France secured their spot in the pre-quarters with a dominant victory in Miami, knocking Sweden out of the tournament.

MIAMI, June 30: Kylian Mbappe continued his sensational form at the FIFA World Cup, scoring twice to guide France to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sweden on Tuesday. The definitive win in this Round of 32 clash seals France’s spot in the Round of 16, while eliminating Sweden from the tournament.

France delivered a commanding performance to dismantle Sweden and extend their unbeaten run in the tournament’s first knockout stage. Didier Deschamps’ side dominated possession from the opening whistle, patiently probing a deep-sitting Swedish defense while neutralising any potential counterattacks.

The breakthrough came late in the first half following sustained pressure. In the 45th minute, Mbappe broke the deadlock with a clinical finish after a sequence of quick passing in the attacking third opened up the Scandinavian defense.

France maintained their high tempo after the restart and quickly doubled their advantage in the second half when Bradley Barcola found the back of the net with a precise strike.

Sweden attempted to respond with greater urgency, threatening briefly from set-pieces, but struggled to break down a highly disciplined French defense. Goalkeeper Mike Maignan remained largely untested throughout the encounter as France’s midfield dictated the rhythm of the game.

Mbappe put the result beyond any doubt in the 74th minute, calmly converting his second goal of the match and his sixth of the tournament. The strike cements his position among the leading goalscorers of the World Cup.

With this comprehensive victory, France comfortably progress to the Round of 16, where they are scheduled to face Paraguay on Saturday. For Sweden, the defeat marks the end of their World Cup journey, as the single-elimination knockout format leaves no room for recovery.
