Palakkad, April 2, 2026: Ramesh Pisharody received support from LDF candidate N. M. Razaq after BJP workers allegedly blocked his election campaign in Vadakkanthara.
Razaq condemned the incident, stating that preventing a candidate from seeking votes is against democratic values. He emphasized that in a democracy, every candidate has the right to approach voters freely, regardless of political differences. He added that political disagreements should not turn into personal hostility and warned that such actions could harm the social harmony of Palakkad.
The incident occurred when Pisharody arrived in Ward 51 as part of his campaign. A group of BJP workers, reportedly led by a local councillor, blocked his entry, leading to a verbal clash between party workers. As tensions escalated, the UDF candidate was forced to cut short his campaign and leave the area.
According to UDF leaders, the campaign vehicle was initially stopped and its keys were taken away, disrupting the campaign activities. They alleged that despite clarifying that Pisharody was there to meet voters and not for any personal confrontation, he was not allowed to proceed.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders justified the action, alleging that Pisharody had made inappropriate remarks, which led to the protest. The incident has added to the political tension in the constituency as campaigning intensifies ahead of the elections.
The development highlights rising political friction in the state, even as leaders from different fronts call for maintaining democratic values and peaceful campaigning.
