Mbappé vs Yamal: Golden Boot Leader Faces Playmaking Prodigy in World Cup Semi-Final

France and Spain set for blockbuster clash at Dallas Stadium with a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at stake.

ARLINGTON, Texas : — European heavyweights France and Spain will go head-to-head at Dallas Stadium on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 (Wednesday, July 15 at 12:30 AM IST), in a highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final. The high-stakes knockout match features a direct individual showdown between French captain Kylian Mbappé, the tournament’s leading goalscorer, and Spain’s 19-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal.

The blockbuster fixture marks the 11th career meeting between Mbappé and Yamal across domestic club matches and international tournaments. While Yamal has historically dominated the rivalry, winning eight of their previous ten encounters, Mbappé enters the semi-final in scintillating tournament form.

Mbappé has been lethal in front of goal during the tournament in North America, leading the Golden Boot race with eight goals and three assists. The Real Madrid forward scored a crucial goal in France’s 2-0 quarter-final victory over Morocco to equal Argentina’s Lionel Messi at the top of the tournament scoring charts.

French head coach Didier Deschamps praised his captain’s resilience following the quarter-final match. Deschamps emphasized that despite intense defensive pressure, Mbappé remains the most feared attacking weapon in international football.

In contrast, Spain’s tactical approach under manager Luis de la Fuente relies heavily on control and structural possession. Yamal has functioned as the primary creative spark on the wing, orchestrating the Spanish attack even though he has only scored once in the tournament.

History remains firmly on the side of the Spanish prodigy, who has never lost a knockout match against Mbappé at the international level. Yamal famously scored in Spain’s 2-1 victory over France in the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals. He followed that performance with a two-goal masterclass in Stuttgart during a dramatic 5-4 victory over Les Bleus in the 2025 UEFA Nations League semi-finals.

The winner of the match will advance to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final scheduled for Sunday, July 19, 2026, while the losing side will exit the tournament in the final four.
