National Centre of Meteorology issues multi-day alert for afternoon convective cloud development, high humidity, and squalls reaching up to 45 km/h.

ABU DHABI — Scorching inland temperatures exceeding 49°C will coincide with rain-bearing convective cloud formations and gusty winds across parts of the United Arab Emirates this week, forecasters warned.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) confirmed that weather conditions from Sunday will remain generally fair to partly cloudy, though localized atmospheric instability will bring afternoon showers and reduced visibility across eastern and southern regions.

Surface low-pressure systems expanding from the east, combined with moist air flows from the Oman Sea, continue to drive afternoon cloud development over mountainous terrain. While light to moderate southeasterly and northeasterly winds will prevail across most territories, localized downdrafts surrounding rain clouds are expected to reach speeds of up to 45 km/h. These gusts will kick up loose dust and sand, significantly lowering horizontal visibility on exposed highways.

Extreme summer heat will remain firmly entrenched over interior desert zones, where maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 44°C and 49°C. Coastal areas, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai, will record highs between 38°C and 43°C, accompanied by uncomfortable overnight humidity levels reaching up to 90 percent. Mountainous districts will offer slight relief, with peaks ranging between 33°C and 37°C.

Meteorologists anticipate rain patterns to expand geographically as the week progresses. Convective cloud cover on Monday afternoon will remain primarily focused over eastern heights, bringing scattered showers and winds up to 35 km/h. By Tuesday and Wednesday, rain activity is projected to broaden into southern and central inland areas. Stronger squalls up to 45 km/h are expected near cloud formations on Wednesday, raising thick dust plumes.

Higher humidity levels overnight will set the stage for dense mist and fog formation during early morning hours on Wednesday and Thursday across western coastal corridors. Maritime conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are expected to remain slight to moderate overall. Drivers and residents in eastern and southern zones have been advised to exercise caution during peak afternoon hours due to sudden rain squalls and blowing dust.
