Five Greek cabinet ministers and top Gulf executives gather in Athens as bilateral corporate presence surges 19 percent, paving the way for cross-border private capital deals.

ATHENS — 23 October 2026 : Government leaders, institutional financiers, and sovereign-backed enterprise chiefs from the United Arab Emirates and Greece convened in Athens on Thursday for Investopia Mediterranean, seeking to convert expanding diplomatic ties into commercial joint ventures across artificial intelligence, renewable power, and cross-border logistics.

The high-level conference featured five Greek cabinet ministers alongside senior UAE economic officials, underscoring an accelerating commercial partnership between Athens and Abu Dhabi. Dispatched delegations prioritized direct project financing, technical joint ventures, and capital matching across the new economy, with primary emphasis on digital infrastructure, renewable transition assets, and private credit.

“The partnership between the UAE and Greece is built on longstanding relations and mutual trust, providing a strong basis for expanding investment cooperation in sectors of mutual priority,” said Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment and Co-Chair of Investopia. “We look forward to building on these strengths to connect capital with projects and expertise, enable our companies to grow and enter new markets, and develop partnerships that support energy security, technological transformation, and economic competitiveness.”

Key officials leading the Greek cohort included Kostis Hatzidakis, Vice President of the Government; Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of Economy and Finance; Stavros Papastavrou, Minister of Environment and Energy; Olga Kefalogianni, Minister of Tourism; and Harry Theoharis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. On the UAE side, Alsuwaidi was joined by Mohammad Abdulrahman Alhawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Investment and President of Investopia, and Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.

Corporate participation included major state-linked and private players from both jurisdictions: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), AI group G42, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), alongside Eurobank, Enterprise Greece, Athens International Airport, the Hellenic Growth Fund, and Bank of America.

Commercial data presented during the summit illustrated a sharp uptick in cross-border corporate integration. The number of Greek enterprises operating within the UAE climbed to 1,483 by the end of September 2026, up from 1,244 recorded in September 2025. That 19.2 percent net addition of 239 companies highlights the Gulf nation’s growing role as a commercial hub for Greek industrial and tech exporters.

Aviation and leisure sectors mirrored this momentum. Greek visitor arrivals in the UAE reached 72,482 in 2025, an 11.4 percent rise over 2024’s 65,078 travelers, bolstered by 26 scheduled weekly direct flights connecting Greek and Emirati international airports.

Ten specialized panel sessions and three executive roundtables formed the working agenda. Discussions opened with structural dialogues on reshaping trade corridors among Europe, Africa, and Asia, followed by targeted talks on renewable infrastructure, circular economy frameworks, and decarbonization strategies led by Greek Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou.

A parallel panel on global energy financing evaluated supply resilience and modern grid technology amid shifting geopolitical demands. In financial technology and asset management, closed-door roundtables tackled AI adoption rates across corporate balance sheets, digital payments framework regulation, and private market allocations for cross-border venture and buyout funds.

“Our aim is for participants to leave Athens with clearly identified opportunities, potential partners, and clear next steps,” said Alhawi, emphasizing that the forum was designed to pivot from broad policy discussion to contractual deal flow.

The Athens meeting marks the second chapter in the Investopia Mediterranean series, following its inaugural launch in Cyprus in June 2025. Investopia organizers confirmed that the global investment roadshow will head next to London in December 2026, followed by flagship gatherings in Abu Dhabi in March and Milan in April, before expanding outreach into India, China, and key African hubs throughout 2027.
