Heightened geopolitical volatility and Strait of Hormuz transit uncertainties force continued cancellations and route alterations across Middle East air corridors.

DUBAI, August 20, 2026:Air travel across the United Arab Emirates remains subject to widespread scheduling adjustments, cancellations, and delays as regional carriers recalibrate routes in response to ongoing security volatility surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

National carriers including Emirates, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, and flydubai continue operating selected international routes, though services to several Gulf destinations face targeted cancellations. Simultaneously, numerous global airlines have pushed back their planned resumption dates for flights into Dubai and the broader Middle East.

Etihad Airways confirmed operational delays on its Abu Dhabi to Peshawar route (EY276/EY277) on Thursday. While the Abu Dhabi-based carrier maintains regular daily rotations for flights EY643 and EY644 to Bahrain, it has extended cancellations on three other paired Bahrain services—EY641/EY642, EY645/EY646, and EY647/EY648—through August 21.

Emirates is operating a modified timetable on its Dubai-Bahrain corridor, cancelling flights EK835 and EK837 while maintaining EK839. The Dubai flag carrier is offering fee-free ticket date modifications for inbound passengers under flexible booking policies introduced earlier this month.

Dubai-based flydubai reported that core routes to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain remain operational according to scheduled timetables. However, the carrier logged departures delays on select rotations from Dubai International Airport, including services bound for Tel Aviv (FZ1211), Jeddah (FZ909), and Bodrum (FZ627). Departure guidelines for flydubai passengers leaving Dubai now recommend arriving at least four hours prior to take-off.

Air Arabia has grounded specific regional rotations, including flight G9107 from Sharjah to Bahrain, alongside Kuwait-bound services G9068 and G9124 from Sharjah, and 3L020 operating from Abu Dhabi. Third-party carriers operating out of Dubai have also felt the impact, with Airblue service PA111 to Karachi and SpiceJet service SG5117 to Kochi recorded as cancelled on Thursday.

The disruptions coincide with persistent diplomatic and security tensions across the Gulf. Operational logistics in the Strait of Hormuz remain constrained, with international maritime shippers continuing to divert vessels despite diplomatic assertions regarding open navigation. Brent crude traded near $91.87 per barrel in early Asian market sessions amid the ongoing corridor uncertainty.

Regulatory authorities in Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation have advised all airlines operating into the Kingdom to strictly verify transit and entry documentation at origin points to prevent border bottlenecks.

Major foreign operators continue to maintain long-term suspensions on UAE and regional corridors. Air Canada has withdrawn Dubai services through mid-January 2027, while British Airways has suspended Dubai, Tel Aviv, Bahrain, and Amman flights through October 25. Lufthansa Group and Swiss have extended Dubai flight suspensions through September 13, KLM has halted Dubai, Riyadh, and Dammam operations until September 6, and Singapore Airlines has deferred its Dubai return until October 24.

Airlines and airport operators urge all outbound and transit passengers to verify real-time flight statuses through official airline channels prior to traveling to the airport.
