Convective clouds, poor visibility, and wind speeds reaching 45 km/h expected across eastern, southern, and inland regions following downpours in Al Ain.

ABU DHABI, August 24, 2026:The United Arab Emirates is preparing for an extended period of volatile weather conditions, with rain forecast to persist across several parts of the country through Thursday.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) confirmed that convective cloud formations will drive scattered rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 45 km/h that could trigger blowing dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility.

The official weather alert follows three consecutive days of unstable conditions that brought heavy downpours to parts of the country, including Al Ain, where water accumulation disrupted local traffic and flooded roads. High summer temperatures persist in tandem, with peak inland readings reaching up to 49.3°C.

According to the NCM’s operational bulletin, a surface low-pressure system extending from the east, combined with an upper-air low-pressure atmosphere, continues to create favorable conditions for afternoon convective cloud development.

Detailed Daily Weather Outlook

  • Monday, August 24: Fair to partly cloudy skies across most regions. Convective clouds are expected to form over eastern areas during the afternoon, bringing localized rainfall. Winds will remain light to moderate between 10 and 25 km/h, occasionally peaking at 35 km/h. High humidity is anticipated overnight along coastal zones.
  • Tuesday, August 25: Unstable conditions will spread further inland and southward. Afternoon rain-bearing clouds are forecast for eastern and southern areas. Wind speeds could reach 40 km/h around cloud activity, creating blowing dust. Overcast humidity late Tuesday night will heighten the risk of early morning fog and mist along the coast.
  • Wednesday, August 26: The most active atmospheric instability is projected for mid-week. Afternoon convective clouds over the eastern and southern borders will expand into inland regions, delivering renewed rainfall. Strong downdraft winds reaching speeds of 45 km/h will kick up dust and sand, severely affecting visibility on open highways.
  • Thursday, August 27: Rain chances persist into late afternoon as cloud clusters form over eastern mountainous terrain. Winds around convective formations will reach 40 km/h before conditions gradually ease heading into Friday morning.

Marine conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea are expected to remain slight throughout the week. Drivers and residents are advised to remain cautious, particularly during peak afternoon cloud formations and periods of dust-driven visibility loss.
