Drug abuse is not merely an individual problem; it is a threat to the future of our children, the hopes of parents, and the wellbeing of society. When a young person becomes trapped in addiction, the consequences can reach far beyond the individual, bringing pain, fear, and uncertainty into the entire family.
It is against this painful reality that Dr. K. P. Hussain has decided to support the awareness campaign under Operation Toofan, initiated by the Honorable Home Minister, Shri Ramesh Chennithala, with the vision of protecting Kerala’s young generation from the dangers of drug abuse.
The campaign is designed to bring students themselves to the forefront of the fight against drugs. With a target of involving approximately 45 lakh students, the initiative will encourage them to create short films and video messages that communicate the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of protecting their future.
The competition is proposed to conclude at the end of October, with awards for the three best creations:
- First prize: ₹1,00,000
- Second prize: ₹75,000
- Third prize: ₹50,000
The purpose of this competition is not simply to identify talented students. It is to empower young people to become messengers of awareness among their own friends and communities. A powerful message created by one student can influence another student in a way that no lecture or warning may achieve.
Dr. Hussain believes that the most effective awareness is awareness created by students, for students. When children understand the dangers of drugs and communicate that understanding to their peers, the message becomes personal, meaningful, and capable of creating lasting change.
Behind this initiative is a deeply painful reality witnessed by many families. Parents who educate their children with great hope and sacrifice often dream of seeing them build a successful and meaningful future. But when addiction enters a family, those dreams can be replaced by anxiety, helplessness, and suffering.
The pain of a mother who says, “My son is harming me; please take him away from the house,” is a heartbreaking reminder of how far addiction can destroy family life. Such words should never become the final expression of a parent’s love and despair. No family should have to reach that point.
This is why Dr. Hussain has chosen to support Operation Toofan’s awareness initiative. He believes that prevention, education, and collective responsibility can protect children before their lives are damaged by drugs.
The campaign is an investment in the future—not only of individual students, but of Kerala as a whole. By encouraging young people to create awareness, the initiative seeks to build a generation that understands the value of life, education, family, and responsibility.
