Doha: Qatar has rejected Israeli allegations that its decision to suspend liquefied natural gas (LNG) production was a deliberate political move. According to reports citing a senior Qatari official, claims in Israeli media that the move was intended to influence LNG prices in the United States are attempts to create tension between Qatar and the United States.
The official said that Qatar prioritises the safety of its people over political or economic gains. He also accused spokespeople linked to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of attempting to increase tensions and divisions in the region.
Qatar accounts for around 20 percent of global LNG supply. Recently, Iranian drone attacks targeted QatarEnergy facilities at Ras Laffan and a water tank at a power plant in Mesaieed Industrial City. Following the incident, QatarEnergy temporarily suspended LNG production, which has affected the global LNG market.
Israeli political analyst Amit Segal had claimed that the suspension was part of coordination between Iran and Qatar aimed at increasing pressure to end the war. However, Qatari officials dismissed the claims as an attempt to drive a wedge between Qatar and the United States.
