Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has organised a workshop for driving institutes to demonstrate its Intelligent Monitoring System (IMS), an advanced camera-based platform designed to monitor instructor and trainee behaviour inside training vehicles and enhance transparency across the driver training sector.
The initiative forms part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to modernise the driver training ecosystem, improve service quality, and strengthen compliance monitoring through the adoption of artificial intelligence and smart technologies.
Saeed Al Ramsi said the Intelligent Monitoring System is designed to protect the rights of both trainees and instructors while ensuring training time is utilised effectively.
“The initiative aligns with the Dubai Government’s direction to use camera-based systems to document compliance inspections and leverage artificial intelligence to enhance monitoring efficiency,” he said.
According to Al Ramsi, the system has significantly improved oversight of training sessions and contributed to a more than 200 per cent increase in inspection activities compared to the period before its implementation.
The system enables authorities to detect various forms of non-compliant behaviour during training sessions, including sleeping, eating or drinking, and distractions that may affect the quality and safety of driver training.

During the workshop, participants were briefed on the system’s features, operational procedures, and the process for handling alerts and observations related to both instructors and trainees. The platform also monitors vehicle-related activities, including unscheduled stops and deviations from approved training times and routes.
Al Ramsi described the IMS as a major step forward in the automation of training operations, performance monitoring, and compliance inspections. He noted that the system helps reduce inspection times while providing a comprehensive oversight mechanism that supports higher service standards and improved safety outcomes.
He added that RTA remains committed to strengthening collaboration with driving institutes through knowledge-sharing initiatives and the exchange of best practices to ensure the effective implementation of advanced technologies across the sector.
The authority said the initiative supports Dubai’s broader vision of enhancing quality of life, improving road safety, and achieving the highest levels of compliance and professionalism in driver training services.
