Airlines adjust select Gulf routes while Dubai and Abu Dhabi hubs operate normally following a tanker attack and tightened naval enforcement in the Strait of Hormuz.

DUBAI, Sept. 22, 2026 —Major international airports across the United Arab Emirates are maintaining scheduled flight operations today, even as airlines introduce selective cancellations and reroutings across Gulf destinations amid escalating rhetoric between Washington and Tehran and maritime skirmishes near the Strait of Hormuz.

Flight boards at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH) reflected largely uninterrupted schedules on Tuesday morning, despite isolated departure delays and route adjustments across regional carriers. Commercial aviation authorities confirmed that domestic airspace remains clear, advising passengers to rely strictly on official airline alerts.

Network adjustments vary by carrier. Emirates continues to operate scheduled services connecting Dubai to Bahrain and Kuwait. Etihad Airways maintains the bulk of its regional rotations, including services to Riyadh, Al Qassim, and Medina, though morning departures to Dammam and Jeddah logged operational delays.

Budget carriers have curtailed operations on select sectors. flydubai cancelled services on its Dubai–Bahrain and Dubai–Yanbu routes, urging outbound passengers in Dubai to reach terminals at least four hours prior to departure, complete digital check-in, and monitor dynamic flight statuses. Air Arabia scrubbed several Gulf sectors out of Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, including runs to Kuwait and Bahrain. Direct flights between the UAE and Iranian cities remain indefinitely suspended across domestic carriers, matching broader international suspensions.

Maritime corridors through the Strait of Hormuz remain under severe operational strain following fresh security incidents. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that a commercial tanker sustained a strike from an unidentified projectile while entering the strait on Monday. Two crew members suffered minor injuries, and the vessel proceeded to its next port of call under its own propulsion.

Commercial traffic through the strategic chokepoint continues at diminished levels. Tankers are increasingly executing ship-to-ship crude transfers with Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders powered down to conceal movements. U.S. Central Command confirmed it had intercepted and redirected 109 commercial vessels as of Sept. 20 under an enforced maritime blockade targeting vessels navigating to or from Iranian coastal facilities. Selective transit persists under bilateral diplomatic arrangements, highlighted by an LNG carrier that transited from Qatar to Pakistan over the weekend following direct understandings with Tehran.

Tehran has reiterated that maritime passage will not normalize without sanctions relief and an end to U.S. naval enforcement. Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, stated that Iran will not return to prior negotiating frameworks or permit unhindered passage through Hormuz until Washington halts its interdictions. A spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that Iran retains the capacity to broaden operational targets if U.S. naval operations intensify.

Crude markets experienced sharp intra-week volatility, declining on preliminary diplomatic posturing ahead of the United Nations General Assembly while pricing in a sustained maritime risk premium. Regional energy producers continue leveraging overland bypasses, including Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline network, to route supplies away from potential Gulf bottlenecks.

UAE authorities continue to reiterate that domestic municipal services, food supply chains, and retail networks face no disruption. Travelers transiting regional air hubs are advised to verify boarding times directly through carrier portals and disregard unsourced social media alerts concerning regional airspace closures.
