National Centre of Meteorology projects convective cloud activity, blowing sand, and isolated showers extending through Monday, alongside morning fog risks.
DUBAI, Oct 15 : Parts of the United Arab Emirates are set to experience scattered rainfall, strong wind gusts, and localized dust storms as an unsettled weather system lingers across the country through Monday.
Convective clouds are forming across eastern areas before pushing inland and into western zones during the afternoon hours, bringing localized showers, according to the official five-day bulletin released by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
The meteorological agency noted that daytime skies will range from fair to partly cloudy, punctuated by rapid convective formations that frequently generate intense, localized bursts of precipitation.
Despite the damp outlook, daytime conditions will remain uncomfortably warm. Inland desert communities are expected to record peak temperatures between 37°C and 42°C, while coastal districts and surrounding islands will hover between 35°C and 40°C. The higher altitudes of the eastern mountain ranges will see comparatively milder conditions, peaking between 28°C and 33°C.
Surface winds are projected to blow light to moderate at 10 to 25 km/h, but forecasters cautioned that convective cloud downdrafts could kick up sudden gusts reaching 40 km/h along the coastline and up to 45 km/h in open desert corridors and mountain passes. These transient spikes are likely to whip up dust and sand, sharply cutting horizontal visibility on open motorways.
Motorists face additional challenges in the early morning hours. Relative humidity is projected to spike sharply overnight, creating conditions conducive to dense fog and mist across internal and coastal routes on Friday and Saturday mornings. Traffic authorities consistently urge drivers to reduce speeds, monitor variable electronic speed signs, and avoid using hazard lights while moving through fog banks.
Marine conditions are expected to remain manageable throughout the weekend. The Arabian Gulf is anticipated to run slight to moderate, while the Sea of Oman will stay slight, making maritime operations broadly viable outside the immediate vicinity of squally showers.
The NCM’s extended outlook shows convective rain potential will persist in eastern regions on Friday and Saturday afternoons. By Sunday, isolated showers are favored across northern and eastern corners of the country, before the convective activity shifts toward southern and eastern sectors by Monday.
