Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has publicly expressed regret over controversial statements made by his father, Yograj Singh, against MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev.

In a podcast teaser released on Thursday, Yuvraj said he wanted to apologise to both Dhoni and Kapil Dev. “I would like to say sorry to MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev,” he stated, addressing the controversy surrounding his father’s repeated allegations.

Yograj Singh had earlier claimed that Dhoni was responsible for Yuvraj being dropped from the Indian team. He had also made a shocking statement in 2025, saying he once wanted to harm Kapil Dev after being dropped from the team in the 1980s. These remarks had sparked widespread criticism

Responding to a question about his father’s interviews, Yuvraj said he had spoken to him and made it clear that such comments were not appropriate. “I told my father this is not right,” he said.

Yuvraj, one of India’s key players in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, was named Player of the Tournament in 2011. Despite being senior to Dhoni at one point, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had chosen Dhoni as captain, a decision that later proved highly successful.

After the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer and took a break from cricket. Although he returned to international cricket, he struggled to regain a permanent place in the team. He last played for India in 2017 and announced his retirement in 2019.

His recent apology is seen as an attempt to put an end to the long-standing controversy and maintain respect among Indian cricket legends.
