Arjun, a native of Nadapuram in Kozhikode, loses his life in a major blast at a Qatari gas processing facility; repatriation efforts underway.
DUBAI: A 30-year-old Indian expatriate from Kerala was killed following a massive explosion at a gas plant facility in Qatar. The deceased has been identified as Arjun, a native of Purameri in Nadapuram, Kozhikode district. The tragic incident occurred during operational hours at the plant, sending shockwaves through the non-resident Keralite (NRK) community in the Gulf region.
According to initial reports filtering from the site, the accident was triggered by a sudden blast within the processing unit of the gas plant. Arjun, who had been working at the facility as a technical professional, sustained fatal injuries from the impact of the explosion and expired on the spot. Local emergency services and plant safety teams rushed to the scene immediately, but his life could not be saved.
The news of Arjun’s sudden demise has plunged his hometown of Purameri into deep mourning. Known as a hardworking and community-oriented young man, Arjun had moved to the Gulf to support his family. Local representatives and community leaders in Qatar have stepped in to coordinate with company officials and local authorities to expedite the legal formalities.
Efforts are actively underway by non-resident Keralite socio-cultural organizations in Doha, alongside the Indian Embassy, to complete the necessary documentation and repatriate Arjun’s mortal remains to Kerala at the earliest for the final rites.
The Gulf region, particularly Qatar and the UAE, houses millions of blue-collar and white-collar workers from Kerala. Industrial safety remains a paramount focus for energy conglomerates in the Middle East. However, despite stringent safety compliance frameworks monitored under regional energy ministries, sporadic industrial mishaps continue to pose high risks to frontline technical workers on the ground.
